San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie Visits Lavash in the Inner Sunset
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie visits Lavash, the Talai family's Persian restaurant on Irving Street, and calls it a neighborhood classic.

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie stopped by Lavash, the family-run Persian restaurant at 6th Avenue and Irving Street in the Inner Sunset, and shared the visit in an Instagram reel on October 7, 2026. The mayor was walking the neighborhood when he ran into Kian, whose family runs Lavash, and Kian invited him to come see the restaurant. GROOVE Media created Lavash's brand video and photography earlier in 2026.
"A Neighborhood Classic"
In his post, Mayor Lurie called Lavash a neighborhood classic serving great Persian food, and he pointed to the flowers that fill the restaurant inside and out, which make it hard to miss at 6th and Irving. He used the visit to make a wider point: small businesses like Lavash are vital to San Francisco's neighborhoods and bring life to merchant corridors like the Inner Sunset. Within a week, the reel had drawn more than 8,700 likes and 340 comments.
A Family Business on Irving Street
Lavash is run by the Talai family. Saeed and Nazila Talai, who came to San Francisco from Iran, started out selling flowers from a stand at 7th Avenue and Irving Street, grew it into several flower shops and later ran the taqueria L'Avenida before opening Lavash in 2008 on the same block, according to Hyperflyer. Their sons Kaivon, Kamron and Kian help run the restaurant, and Nazila's floral arrangements remain the signature of the dining room. After a kitchen fire in January 2018, Lavash closed for nearly two years and reopened at the end of 2019, SFGATE reported.
GROOVE Media and Lavash
In 2026, GROOVE Media produced a vertical-first brand video and a set of stills for Lavash, shot during real dinner service to capture the room, the hospitality and the food. See the project in the Lavash SF case study and more of the restaurant in our hospitality photography.
