Tolvai Reni Honors Her Father with "YOU AND ME" on GROOVE Sessions

Hungarian singer Tolvai Reni performs "YOU AND ME," the song she wrote in memory of her late father, in a stripped-back live video for GROOVE Sessions, the performance series produced in-house by GROOVE Media in Budapest. Released by GROOVE Media on January 28, 2026, the session returns to one of the most personal songs in her catalog and presents it in the series' one artist, one song, one room format.
A Song Written for Her Father
Reni first released "You and Me" as a single on January 29, 2020. Her father had died in 2017, and in interviews around the release she told Hungarian media that more than two years passed before she felt able to remember him in a song. She wrote it in English for a simple reason: her father had always loved hearing her sing in English most of all.
At the time, she described the song and its original music video as the most vulnerable work she had ever released, and said she hoped it could offer something to hold on to for listeners who have lost someone close to them. Six years later, the GROOVE Session revisits the song in a more intimate setting.
The GROOVE Session
Every GROOVE Session follows the same rule: one artist, one song, one room. GROOVE Media directs, films and finishes each episode internally, completing the edit and color in DaVinci Resolve. The team calls the approach an "anti-music video," with no storyline or production gloss and the focus kept entirely on the artist and the performance. For a song this personal, that format leaves Reni's voice to carry the meaning on its own.
Reni joins a lineup that includes Kállay Saunders, who opened the series in 2025 (read the GROOVE Sessions launch announcement), and Italian artist Davide Shorty with his live session of "Fuorigioco".
About Tolvai Reni
Born Renáta Tímea Tolvai in Oradea, Romania, in 1991, Reni rose to national fame in Hungary by winning the fifth season of the TV talent show Megasztár in 2010, at age 19. She released her debut album Ékszer in 2011, the same year as her single "Hagylak menni," and she has competed three times in A Dal, Hungary's national selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest, in 2012, 2016 and 2018. Her music spans R&B-pop, soul and jazz, and she has named Beyoncé and Aretha Franklin among her influences.
